Learn how Dry Ice blasting helped Tyre Manufacturers improve their Brand Image!!

Dry ice blasting is currently being used to clean the WHRB tubes at Reliance Energy Plants. This has been possible by using CMW CO2’s pathbreaking Multi Layer Technology. The tubes had contaminants which could not have been cleaned by traditional cleaning methods due to difficulty in accessing these tubes. Our multi layer technology has been able to achieve depth in cleaning & cleaner Heat transfer surfaces in all rows especially the middle rows. The main benefits which have been observed are Lowers Turbine Back pressure and Increase in thermal performance.

Ashok Iron Works,Belgaum is Indias leading Jobbing foundry producing Grey Iron castings required for Automobile,Farm Equipment sector & Diesel Engines industry. They were using traditional ways of cleaning like sand blasting before they got introduced to Dry Ice blasting technology. They asked for a Demo about the technology.Post the demo, they could see that they would be able to save a lot of downtime, as moulds do not have to be carried to a different site as in sand blasting. The cleaning efficiency was also much superior.

Learn how Dry Ice blasting helped Tyre Manufacturers improve their Brand Image!!
A major problem faced by all tire manufacturers is that of mould fouling in:
  • Microvents - increases the production scrap rate
  • Segmented moulds –
    • Residue build up on the mating mould surfaces
    • Can cause high mechanical stresses in the fasteners
    • Result in very costly damage to both the mould and press
  • The bead area – Air leakage in tubeless tyres
  • The finely sculpted alpha-numeric characters of the D.O.T.
  • The surface of the sidewalls
  • The tread area
  • The brand logo and lettering - usually the focus area from which customers
develop an initial perception of a tire company’s product quality
  • Parting Line
The issues with Sand Blasting used to be:
  • Not In-situ Cleaning
  • Down Time – High
  • Mould Erosion - Rework or be scrapped
  • Microvents - Sand Entrapment
  • The fine silica imbedded "dust" residual from sand or glass bead blasting prevent the proper chemical bonding of certain release agents to the mould
The benefits which both these companies realised were huge & were as follows:
  • Production costs reduced- low rejections/ scrap/ labour
  • Press downtime reduced min of 8 hours
  • Saves inventory of spare moulds
  • Annual production increased by 3,500 tires per press.
  • MICRO VENT drilling eliminated.
  • Near zero-defect levels achieved in curing related blemishes and scrap.
  • Expensive tool damage stopped by reducing disassembly and the incidence of tool misalignment.
